This is a French bed, ‘Corbielle’ to give it its full title, came to us needing some tlc. The wood is scuffed and chipped and the sun had taken its toll on part of the wood.
The fabric, nice in its day, but now showing signs of wear and beyond cleaning properly as it had been stored in a garage for some years.
The old studs and fabric was removed. The show wood was completely stripped and repolished,the padding renewed to make it fire retardant. The frame was completely reupholstered.
As french beds are traditionally quite small,usually just housing a 4’6″ mattress, the frame was extended making it a king size bed, as the customer was over six feet tall. We also made a new base to allow a 5 foot mattress to be used.
The result, a beautiful and elegant piece of furniture suitable for modern day use.
These beds can be found for sale, normally in their original condition, on E Bay, or sometimes we can source them for you. Buying them in the original condition allows you to transform them into just what ‘you’ want.
